Internships & Service Learning
About the EPICUR Internship Exchange Programme and Service Learning course "En route!" Become a global citizen through cross-border Service-Learning
According to the European Commission, beyond their core tasks of teaching, research, and innovation, universities play a significant role in addressing societal challenges, becoming true engines of regional development and promoting civic engagement. EPICUR addresses this need by offering novel types of teaching and learning activities within both curricular and co-curricular programmes.
The EPICUR Internship Exchange Programme prepares bachelor and master's students for the jobs of tomorrow in times of growing globalisation and digitalisation. The cross-border internships connect the eight regions of the European University in which the internship positions are located and enable future generations to find solutions to societal challenges that Europe and the world are currently facing. Contributing to the employability of the graduates, the practical work experience in private enterprises and civil society organisations enables students to broaden their horizons, improve their language proficiency and enhance their intercultural competencies at an early stage.
In the field of civic engagement, EPICUR offers Intercultural Service Learning, which combines an innovative way of online academic learning with on-site voluntary work in a civil society organisation. Therefore, the internships at civil society organisations require also the participation in the course "En route!" Become a global citizen through cross-border Service-Learning.
Important note:
Please check with the appropriate authorities at your home university to determine whether it will be possible to earn ECTS for your participation in the programme (e.g. as an elective). If this is not possible, the course/internship may still be completed as an extracurricular activity.

Available Types of Internships:
Internships at Civil Society Organisations
The internships at civil society organisations are accompanied by the intercultural service-learning course. In academic year 2021/22, on-site internships will probably be available, but the accompanying seminar will remain online to enable participation from different locations and an innovative and inclusive form of student mobility. Participants in this internship format are required to attend the full service-learning course (this includes the introductory session, seminar and final session, as well as two additional bridging trainings). During the service-learning activity, which can take place anytime between February and June 2022, the students will spend at least 2 months working at organisations of the third sector located in the EPICUR regions. The internships provide not only practical work experience, but also strengthen the students’ intercultural and soft skills and, thus, contribute to their employability.
Internships at Private Enterprises
The EPICUR Internship Exchange Programme connects the regions of the European University by offering students cross-border internships at private enterprises based in one of the EPICUR universities’ locations between February and June 2022. The internships provide not only practical work experience, but also strengthen the students’ intercultural and soft skills and, thus, contribute to their employability. Students will work for 3-5 months at successful start-ups, contributing to the development of an entrepreneurial mindset at an early stage. Some of the enterprises operate in the field of social entrepreneurship. The participants completing internships at private enterprises have the opportunity to attend the light version of the intercultural service-learning course (optional), which includes the introductory and final sessions as well as the additional bridging trainings offered by the programme (but not the seminar sessions).
