CS Framework
Citizen Science Framework
The EPICUR partners define Citizen Science as research that actively includes and dialogues with citizens, offering a trustworthy bridge between academia and society. Their alliance aims to use this approach to combine university strengths within local ecosystems, as shown in the validated framework.
The EPICUR Alliance Goal
- Leverage local ecosystems – each partner university applies Citizen Science in ways that fit its regional context.
- Combine strengths – pooling expertise creates bigger impact than isolated efforts.
The Validated Framework
The visual model was reviewed and approved by the CS Working Group, which includes all EPICUR partners, during the January 2024 meeting. It outlines:
- Central hub at each university.
- Collaborative pathways linking researchers, citizens, and other stakeholders.
- Feedback loops for continuous learning and policy influence.
Why It Matters for Everyone
- Access to science – the public can join real research projects, not just read about them.
- Empowerment – involvement builds confidence and a sense of ownership over local issues.
- Better decisions – policies shaped by both scientific evidence and lived experience.
