Citizen Science: Science for and with Society
COMPETENCE DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME FOR RESEARCHERS AND STAFF
The EPICUR Alliance is offering the second round of the comprehensive competence development programme on Citizen Science starting on April 1, 2026. The first pilot was successfully carried out in 2025. The programme is designed to support researchers and research support staff who want to actively involve citizens and communities in research while maintaining high-quality scientific standards.
Citizen Science is increasingly recognized as a powerful approach to addressing global challenges. It strengthens the relationship between science and society, improves sustainability, and responds to growing expectations for universities to demonstrate the societal value of their research. It has already been widely adopted by the European Union, universities, museums, NGOs, schools, and other societal stakeholders.
Programme Structure
The programme consists of two complementary parts:
Part 1: Flexible Online Course
Participants gain foundational knowledge about Citizen Science, including crowdsourcing methods and strategies for public engagement that align with funders’ expectations.
Part 2: Two-Day Summer School
Hosted at the SDU
The summer school offers in-depth training, networking opportunities, and practical insights into implementing Citizen Science in research projects.
